Details:	1070 x 1900 mm, coloured in relief, mounted on linen in panels, folds into maroon cloth covers (290 x 225 mm) titled gilt on the upper cover, all farms shown with names and official numbers, proclaimed gold fields and gold reefs indicated in yellow, railways and proposed railways in red, a 20 page alphabetical index to the farms is mounted on the inside cover of the boards, pin holes at the four corners indicating the map has at one time been displayed on a wall, slight browning but overall in excellent condition. Description:	In an introductory note to the index Bower writes, 'This Map forms the first attempt yet published to show on a large scale (4 miles to 1 inch) the whole of the important Gold, Goal, Iron, and Cobalt bearing regions of the Southern Transvaal and Northern Orange River Colony, extending from Klerksdorp on the west to Pietretief and Lydenburg on the east; and from Heilbron on the south to Vaalboschfonteien on the north..... A unique feature of this Map, and one which it is believed will render it absolutely indispensable at the present moment to all persons owning or in any way interested in property in this important area, is a complete Alphabetical Index of all Farms, accompanied by their official numbers and the name of the District in which they are situated. The whole map is divided up into squares, so that by means of a reference number and letter any Farm can be immediately located'.
